This series involves the appropriation of Jasper Johns’ American Flag painting. It’s a lot more interesting and textural than an ordinary flag, and I like the fact that it only has 48 stars. I juxtapose my photographic, sometimes poorly digitally altered images with a series of altered versions of Johns' artwork. It’s bricolage used to make an evolving statement about 21st Century America. Patriotism, intolerance, and a number of other loosely related –isms and chasms have emerged from these combinations.
